@GeorgeV6v24 But the fact is the NEW 997.2 Turbos are superior. You get what you pay for. The “overpriced VW Beetle turbo” I laughed at, quite funny actually.

@GT3LM Not true. only 1% of GTR transmissions have failed. Do not talk about porsche reliability. Old porsche models are full of problems! Skylines have produced over 1600 whp in the past. The new GTR has ran 9.6 seconds @ 150 mph (1/4 mile) on stock transmission. Your sources of information are probably misleading you. Most motor journalists prefer the GTR (that you call a Datsun) to the 997 turbo (which I call an overpriced VW Beetle turbo)

@GeorgeV6v24 And why do think the Turbo is more money? The GT-R lasts about five minutes before going wrong, and this was evident when there were unbelievable amounts of transmissions blowing up on the GT-R’s. Of course Porsche could make a GT-R killer for the same price, but then it would be just as unreliable. Porsches are built to LAST, Datsuns not so.

@GT3LM only the 997.2 Turbo costs twice as much, in some countries. And guess what. Spend 5k on the GTR, and it beats the 997.2 even with PDK.

i will take GTR for short term and i wil take 911 for long term

hard information — track time. This is what counts.
I also would like to know, if I can use full-throttle without the car downshifting by itself — this is important for everyday driving.
Acceleration with RPMs limited to below a certain number (e.g. 3000 or 4000) would also be of interest — important for everyday driving.

anyway how, I still choose Porsche…
April 30th, 2010 at 4:22 PM
@Miike92 agreed, double clutch gearboxs are a lot faster than manual, which would obviously cut a few 10th off the Porsches time. The time of the GT-R round the ring has never been verified. The is also talk of the Nissan head mechanic admitting they used cut slicks for the run. Anyhow, i suppose we will never know.

@h38604460 Zo6 is not faster than the 911 turbo, tried and tested. The ZR1 is slightly quicker, but then with all that power, it should be! mind you there are a few tests that have the 911 quicker in a 1/4 mile depending on the track conditions, 4wd helping and all that.

@billybishop911
correct, and it will be interesting to see the gen2 turbo with its paddles go against the GTR. i already heard its got the GTR and ZR1 beat in the straight line.

Porsche is better
April 30th, 2010 at 6:30 PM
‘wait until you see my nephew’, this kidd got himself on f1 just because of his name, he hasn’t even managed to finish a race
April 30th, 2010 at 6:46 PM
GTR spanking Porche for less money?
Priceless!
April 30th, 2010 at 7:29 PM
porsche turbo is better looking
April 30th, 2010 at 7:50 PM
@h38604460 Evidently you get what you pay for.
April 30th, 2010 at 8:32 PM
@sfowner32 wow you are leaving in the past. Wake up… Dual clutch are the best transmission on the road except the sequential one. Standard transmission are slow but they are fun to driver. But if you are looking for the best sport car and the fastest one on the track you need this kind of transmission.
April 30th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
@GT3LM the GTR is 1/2 of the price of the 997.2 Turbo
April 30th, 2010 at 10:18 PM
@Arai4lpinestars The Z06 is not faster than the 911 or the GTR on the track. Maybe on a 1 mile straight line but not on the track except if it is the ZR1
April 30th, 2010 at 10:21 PM
The GT-R is currently getting raped by the 997.2 Turbo.

@growlybucks another thing: If you own the carrera S with PowerKit@381hp-you have definetly more fun than with the 997 Turbo 1@480hp. Carrera S is a phantastic car. But i hope you had the classical gearbox and not the tiptronic. Tiptronic slows the car down

2nd part–>safe driving but not for maximum dynamics. Here is the difference between the two cars. For example is even the GT3 RS with 415hp faster than the 997 Turbo. One reason is that the turbo from today had other customers as targets as the beasty Turbs like the 930 3.3 /964 3,6. Its now more a competitor for cars like Vantage V12…or even Mercedes benz…so they want comfort. So the GTR is more like a GT2 or GT3RS…a driving machine. The GTR is still asounishing…with this weight so fast

@growlybucks safe your money don`t put it on the Porsche. I am german…so a little bit involved. Our best sportscar magazine with excellent reputation(SportAuto) get from Porsche for every Nordschleife and Hockenheim test a perfect optimized car. So not only the pressure is lowered…most of the tested Porsche have 104-108% engines..always a little bit more power. The Porsche cars are optimized from Walter Röhrl, one of the best nordschleife drivers. 4wheel drive of the Turbo is useful for
